Who We Are
Seaside Stone, LLC is a Lapidary Shop located in Seaside, Oregon. The owners are Dale and Sheryl Barrett. Dale has been a Rockhound for over 60 years where he learned his skills of finding, cutting and polishing rocks with his family at a young age. In recent years, he has added silversmithing and now makes the sterling silver jewelry.
Many of the rocks and gems that Dale uses to make jewelry and polished specimens come from the Pacific Northwest. The stones from Oregon that Dale cuts into cabochons have become a favorite of Silver Smithers and Jewelry Makers.
The Barrett’s own a jasper claim in Oregon called Rocky Butte. It is one of the top jaspers in the Owyhee area. The material that comes out of the mine is highly prized by rock hounds, collectors and jewelry makers.
The Barrett’s also purchase material from the International Gem Shows in Arizona and International Miners from all over the world.
We have a good supply of quality rough rocks, slabs, cabochons, and polished specimens to choose from. Many are one-of-a-kind treasures that will please everyone working with the rocks and gems.
Flint Knapping
In addition to lapidary work, Dale has spent years learning the art of flint knapping—the process of creating arrowheads, knives, and tools from natural stone. Working with obsidian, agate, jasper, flint, and chert, he carefully heat-treats select materials to improve their flaking qualities and create beautiful finished pieces.
